Hanging on for dear life -- The No Name Storm of 1993

PLAY VIDEO! TEMPLE TERRACE - March 13, 2008 marked the 15-year anniversary of the No Name Storm that terrorized coastal residents of Florida in 1993.

Kimberly and her then boyfriend Fred were living in a beach house on Pine Island when the storm struck in the middle of the night. Fearing for their lives, the couple made their way into the attic and then onto the roof as the house began to crumble beneath them.

It was not long before the high winds and hard rains severed the roof from it's foundation and the couple was set adrift until the it became jammed between a pair of Palm trees.

Fred had already frantically been in contact with his friends from the Tampa Tribune where he and Kimberly worked. He called in on his radio for help, but as the sun began to rise along with the tides, it seemed rescue was still far away.

Some 26 people were killed in Florida alone.

Years after the storm, Kimberly and Fred recalled their dramatic night that almost took their lives. It was the feature on Storm Stories, which aired on the Weather Channel. You can see clips from the show at the link below.
