Building On McBeal

If this building looks familiar, than most likely you are a fan of the FOX show Ally McBeal. You are far from alone.

It turns out many people show up at the door of 14 Beacon Street in Boston looking for an anorexic blonde lawyer and her party pals. A look of confusion soon follows when they notice the chic bar on the ground level is missing from the picture.

The building is actually The American Congregational Association Library and offices. Since 1853 they have tracked religious history in New England. The seventh floor offices, which are portrayed as McBeal's firm, are rented by the National Lesbian & Gay Law Association.

"It couldn't be more unlike a wacky law office with a trendy bar downstairs," comments Larry Meehan of the Greater Boston Visitors Bureau. He can't understand why people looking for faux fun just don't pull up a stool at Cheers. The two are on the same street.

In response to the hoards of disillusioned that show up on their steps, The American Congregational Association added McBeal's name to the building directory. Who ever said Christians don't have a sense of humor?
